Choosing Your Garden Fencing

Now that spring is finally on its way, you might start to think about replacing your garden fencing. Fencing can last a number of years if installed, treated and looked after properly, but will eventually need replacing, which may have been sped up slightly due to the bad weather this year!

Over time fencing will weaken, panels will need replacing, and it may be more cost effective to replace the full fence. Wooden fencing is most common for garden fencing, if you’re not sure what type to go for, here’s a handy guide to help you out!

Wooden Fencing

Post & Panel – The most popular style of fencing which gives a good level of privacy and security. Wooden post and panel provides more aesthetic appeal, while concrete posts with optional gravel boards will be longer lasting.

Concrete posts will have a longer lifespan and give you the option to replace only the panels, as and when you need to.

Concrete gravel boards act as a protective barrier between the ground and the wooden panels, and prevents the panels from being in contact with the damp earth.

Feather edge Boarding – This style also provides a good level of privacy and security. Feather edge fencing has 2 or 3 horizontal wooden rails attached to posts and clad with wooden boards. Again the posts can be concrete or wooden. This is a popular choice for sectioning off the gardens of new build developments.

Decorative Fencing – There are several styles of panels available if you don’t want to go for the standard boards. Panels with a curved or shaped top will give your fence a different look, or the fence can be topped with trellis as a design feature or to support climbing plants.

Metal Fencing – Whilst railings don’t offer the privacy or security of a taller wooden fence, this may be something to consider for the front of the house. Long lasting, durable and can be painted to a colour of your choice, metal railings are a popular choice for front gardens or alongside driveways.

Gates – We also supply and install wooden and metal gates to match new or existing fencing. We can also make bespoke designs to fit your garden or driveway.

You can tailor your fencing to your needs and design preferences, if you don’t see what you need here or anywhere on our website, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

We also offer a number of groundwork services including driveways, patios, surfacing, pathways and turf laying.
